Day 1. Arrive Melbourne and Daylesford

Depart the Sofitel Hotel at 8.00am or Melbourne airport at 9.00am and travel to Daylesford. On the way visit Paul Bangay’s Stonefields garden. Enjoy an exclusive tour of this artistic garden. Arrive in Daylesford where you have time at leisure to have lunch and look at the many shops. This afternoon we visit the Garden of St Erth, one of Australia’s most exciting cool climate gardens. The 2.5-hectare garden is home to a collection of rare and unusual plants, including espaliered fruit, heirloom vegetables and drought tolerant flowers. Travel back to Melbourne where we enjoy a Welcome Dinner with panoramic views.

Day 2. Yarra Valley

Today you will tour the Yarra Valley, home to some of Victoria’s premier wineries and artisan produce. Visit the spectacular Alowyn Gardens, where the owners have transformed a barren landscape into a beautiful instructive garden. Visit Château Yering for a delicious lunch and a wine tasting, then visit the garden once owned by Dame Nellie Melba, Coombe Farm, still owned by her family.

Day 3. Mornington Peninsula

Visit the historic home and garden of Beleura then continue to Heronswood Garden overlooking Port Phillip Bay. Wander through the gardens with perennial borders, scented herbs and dry climate plants. After enjoying a ‘Fork to Fork’ lunch at Heronswood, we continue on to the late Dame Elisabeth Murdoch’s property, Cruden Farm, sure to be a highlight.

Day 4. Dandenong Ranges and Masterclass Cooking Demonstration

After breakfast we explore the beautiful Dandenong Ranges including Cloudehill Garden with its extensive herbaceous borders, roses and azalea walks. Among the mature trees featured at Cloudehill are maples and copper beeches, thought to be among the largest in Victoria. We visit the private garden of 2013 Chelsea Flower Show, Best in Show winner, Phillip Johnson. Tonight, enjoy a special Farewell Dinner with a masterclass cooking demonstration at the Sofitel.

Day 5. Depart Melbourne

Your touring concludes after breakfast at your hotel, enjoy free time to explore Melbourne before your transfer to the airport.

 ‘Fork to Fork’

  • Meaning ‘from the garden fork to the table fork’, the name for this tour has evolved from discussions between Botanica founder, Judy Vanrenen, and Diggers Club founder, Clive Blazey. Both encourage gardeners to enjoy freshly grown produce picked straight from the garden to the kitchen, and for it to be cooked and eaten immediately. On this tour, hear more about the concept of the ‘edible garden’ at the gardens of St Erth and Heronswood.
