Itinerary

Day 1. Arrive Colombo to Negombo

Be met at the airport and transferred to your hotel. Enjoy a Welcome Dinner this evening.

Day 2. Sigiriya & Kandalama

Tour the sites of Negombo before visiting the World Heritage-listed Sigiriya rock fortress. See the water gardens and frescoes of the ‘Heavenly Maidens’ then visit Popham’s Arboretum.

Day 3. Anuradhapura Mahamegha Gardens

Travel to the sacred city of Anuradhapura and visit a large garden of fruit and flowers.

Day 4. Matale to Kandy

On the way to Kandy we visit a spice garden in Matale to see different spices for which Sri Lanka is famous for. Continue on to Kandy, the last capital of the Sri Lankan kings and a World Heritage-listed site. Drive around Kandy Lake and visit the town and bazaar. See the renowned Buddhist temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic.

Day 5. Kandy Botanic Gardens

Today you will be joined by a leading Botanist from the University of Peradeniya to tour the Botanical Gardens, known for its collection of orchids, medicinal plants and palm trees. The gardens are also home to WWII garrisons which were commanded by Lord Mountbatten, whose son-in-law, Timothy Natchpull, is a personal acquaintance of your guide. This evening over dinner enjoy traditional Sir Lankan entertainment.

Day 6. Travel to the Tea Region

Board your scenic train to Nanu Oya in the heart of the tea growing area of Sri Lanka.

Day 7. Hakgala

Visit the Hakgala Botanical Gardens, when the terraced rose garden will be in bloom, then enjoy a high tea at the Grand Hotel, which is a must for all those who visit this iconic hotel.

Day 8. Flower Show & Tea Plantation

Visit the annual Flower Show of Nuwara Eliya which dates back to Colonial days. With its cool climate and hill-country setting, Nuwara Eliya became known as ‘little England’. This afternoon visit a tea plantation, see how tea is graded and taste a cup of pure ceylon tea in the factory.

Day 9. Deniyaya

Travel into the Sinharaja Rainforest, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve and a Biodiversity Hotspot. Settle into the magnificent Rainforest Ecolodge.

Day 10. Rainforest Experience

Today you may wish to trek into the rainforest, keeping a lookout for spotted deer, golden-palm civets and striped-neck mongoose. Or spend the day at leisure.

Day 11. Bawa Gardens to Bentota

This morning visit the beautiful Bawa Gardens, home of the renowned Sri Lankan architect Geoffrey Bawa. The garden at Lunuganga Estate was his ‘laboratory’ for new ideas. Arrive into Bentota located on one of the finest beaches in Sri Lanka.

Day 12. Bawa Gardens

This morning visit the Brief Garden, the private garden of Bevis Bawa, brother of Geoffrey. Afterwards travel to Colombo to visit the townhouse of Geoffrey Bawa, a fascinating example of his architecture and design.

Day 13. Colombo Sightseeing

This morning enjoy time to explore at leisure, followed by an afternoon walking tour. This evening enjoy a Sunset Drink at the Galle Face Hotel’s famous Checkerboard terrace before a Farewell Dinner at the hotel.

Day 14. Depart Colombo
