Enjoy a morning tour of some secret gardens of Budapest. Visit beautiful private gardens which are otherwise closed to the public and learn about the tales of Budapest from a local guide. Enjoy free time this afternoon where you can stroll along the banks of the Danube or visit some of the other sights of this city.

We enjoy a morning drinks reception in the impressive Royal Waiting Room at Budapest Nyugati Station before boarding the luxurious Danube Express. Settle into your beautifully appointed cabin and enjoy lunch as the train makes its way to Vienna. This afternoon visit the World Heritage-listed Schönbrunn Palace, with its impressive baroque architecture and exquisite gardens. Afterwards visit the Alpine Garden, where you can see edelweiss, gentians and alpine roses. This evening, we will enjoy a private concert at the House of Mozart, featuring the Vienna Supreme Orchestra.

Travel across central Austria and into the Alps on an incredibly scenic morning journey. View early Alpine plants in a stunning setting. Travel over the Semmering Pass and through the famous skiing village of Kitzbuhel to Jenbach. After lunch take the steam rack railway which climbs 1,400 feet to the picturesque Lake Achen. Continue to Innsbruck, known for its Imperial and modern architecture. Visit the Tyrolean State Museum with a fine collection of Austrian art. Afterwards, enjoy a tour of Innsbruck including a visit the Hofgarten, originally laid out on the site of a river meadow under the direction of Archduke Ferdinand II in the 16th century. At the time, it was one of the most elaborate gardens laid out north of the Alps.

Relax and watch the scenery of the Vorarlberg unfold in front of your eyes as we pass through St. Anton. Cross through Liechtenstein and then into Switzerland where we travel along the shores of Lake of Zürich before arriving in to Zurich. Alternatively disembark the train in Buchs and take a cable car to Alpengarten Hoher Kasten to see flora common to the Alps, up to 16,000 feet, and views of Lake Constance then arrive into Zurich by coach.

Depart Zürich and travel along the Lake of Zug and Lake Lucerne, before starting the very scenic climb to the St. Gotthard Pass. Descend through Lugano to Lake Como in Italy, here visit the gardens of Villa Carlotta and Villa Balbianello, formal Italian gardens in a stunning lake setting. This evening arrive in Milan, famous for fashion, its magnificently restored gothic Duomo and the Teatro La Scala.

Travel along the south shore of Lake Garda to Verona. Famous for being the setting of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. Visit Giardini Giusti, regarded as one of the most beautiful Renaissance gardens in Europe. Arrive into Trieste, to see the vast Piazza Unita d’Italia, the main town square, where you can climb the hill to the famous Church of San Giusto built around a medieval complex that dates back to the 13th century.

Wake early as our train climbs over the border into Slovenia through the Julian Alps to Lake Bled. With its island, church and castle, it is an incredibly picturesque Alpine lake situated at the foothills of the Alps in north-western Slovenia. Continue to Ljubljana for an afternoon tour which includes visits to Preseren Square, Three Bridges and Dragon Bridge.

Head south towards Mestre where our train travels the three-mile causeway across the Venice Lagoon and into Venice Santa Lucia station located on the Grand Canal. Disembark the train and transfer to your luxurious hotel, which enjoys a spectacular location.
