Day 1. Arrive New Plymouth

Upon arrival you will be met at New Plymouth airport and transferred to your hotel. This evening enjoy a Welcome Dinner at 6.30pm to meet your Botanical Guide and fellow travellers.

Day 2. Taranaki Garden Spectacular & Private Gardens

This morning enjoy your first day amongst the private and public gardens of the Taranaki Garden Spectacular. Explore delightful gardens nestling on the slopes of majestic Mt. Taranaki, either with your Botanical Guide or on your own. You will travel in comfort from garden to garden exploring a diverse range of gardens.

Day 3. Taranaki Garden Spectacular & Private Gardens

Continue on your botanical exploration of the highlights of the private and public gardens of the Taranaki region. Each garden is different, but inspirational and you can see the history and development of each one.

Day 4. Wellington

Visit more festival gardens before leaving Taranaki. On the way to Wellington enjoy views of the picturesque Lake Mangamahoe and a garden visit in the coastal town of Hawera before arriving in New Zealand’s capital city this afternoon.

Day 5. Wellington and Private Garden Visit

Visit a private garden this morning and the Botanic Gardens of Wellington before having this afternoon at leisure. Perhaps you might like to visit Te Papa Tongarewa Museum, referred to by some as Australasia’s most visited museum, located on Wellington’s beautiful waterfront.

Day 6. Interslander Ferry – Picton and Blenheim

Today you’ll enjoy one of the world’s most scenic voyages as the InterIslander ferry traverses Cook Strait through the breathtaking landscape of Marlborough and Queen Charlotte Sounds. Weave through unspoilt islands and admire coastlines defined by tiny coves on the way to Picton. Arrive into the heart of New Zealand’s wine growing region, Marlborough. Enjoy dinner at your hotel.

Day 7. Marlborough Gardens

This morning we depart for Flaxmere Garden located at the foothills of Lake Sumner Forest Park. Enjoy lunch at Flaxmere Garden before continuing onto Christchurch arriving mid-afternoon.

Day 9. Depart Christchurch

Botanical Guide - Judy Horton

  • Judy Horton is a much awarded horticulturist who has been a radio garden adviser for more than 25 years. She gives talks, writes gardening articles and books, and has been responsible for six updates of the best-selling Yates Garden Guide. She is a keen gardener and is currently horticultural editor for the Garden Clubs of Australia’s magazine Our Gardens.

  • Medium – Involves walking on uneven surfaces for more than one hour, multiple two-night stays in one location with potential for unexpected changes to itineraries. A good degree of mobility is required.
