April 2021 Departure
Today your Qantas flight departs at 1.30pm from Sydney. Arrive into Lord Howe Island, where you will be transferred to your accommodation before setting off on a short stroll to the island’s Museum and Visitor Centre for a tour briefing. Later, enjoy a pre-dinner lecture at the Museum and learn about the island’s World Heritage status and the threats to its ecology.

October 2021 or April 2022 Departure
Today your Qantas flight departs at 11.55am from Sydney. Arrive into Lord Howe Island, where you will be transferred to your accommodation before gaining an insight into what your tour will entail during a tour briefing this afternoon.

April 2021 Departure
This morning after breakfast, Ian will accompany you on an easy walk to Transit Hill where there is a viewing platform that offers a 360-degree view of Lord Howe Island. Look out for the island’s signature plants, the Kentia and Curly palms that dominate the landscape in many places. This afternoon, walk to Clear Place to see the tall palm forest and seabird life found here. This evening’s pre-dinner lecture will be an insight into the Birds of Lord Howe Island.

After breakfast this morning, Ian will walk with you around the settlement, while introducing you to the island’s many plants and birds. He will then accompany you on an easy walk to Transit Hill where there is a viewing platform that offers a 360-degree view of Lord Howe Island. Look out for the island’s signature plants, the Kentia and Curly palms that dominate the landscape in many places. This evening’s pre-dinner lecture will feature an overview of the region’s geology, flora, fauna and conservation.

April 2021 Departure
Set off on a nature walk today and discover some of the island’s birdlife. Observe the waders at Mosely Park, then follow the track to Muttonbird Point, where it is possible to view masked boobies nesting. Lord Howe Island is noted as the southernmost nesting island in the world for this species. Continue to Rocky Run Creek and Boat Harbour, where you’ll enjoy lunch before walking back through tall rainforest.

Today’s island exploration will include a bus tour to see the many landmarks and learn about Lord Howe Island’s history. You’ll also immerse yourself in a walk to Mt Stevens Reserve to learn about the Kentia Palm industry. Gain an insight into the plants of Lord Howe Island at this evening’s pre-dinner lecture.

April 2021 Departure
This morning, take a glass-bottom boat on a discovery of the marine life supported by the world’s most southerly coral reef. You’ll also have the option to snorkel. This afternoon, Ian will accompany you on a botanical walk to Malabar. Along the way, you’ll learn about the area’s endemic plant species. The walk involves a fairly steep climb (approx. 200 metres altitude) with regular breaks along the way. Your effort will be rewarded with stunning views, including dramatic displays of red-tailed tropicbirds taking off from the cliffs.

October 2021 or April 2022 Departure
This morning, make your way to Little Island, located at the base of Lord Howe’s mountains and an easy walk along the southwestern shoreline. Here, you’ll learn about the volcanic origins of the island while soaking up the spectacular scenery of this World Heritage-listed site. Ian will then guide you to Clear Place, where you’ll get to witness the tall palm forest, massive banyan trees and an array of seabirds found here.

April 2021 Departure
Today’s island exploration will include a bus transfer and walk to Goathouse Cave, 400 metres above sea level, where Ian will point out the island’s endemic montane flora species, many of which are endangered. At this altitude, you can find the Big Mountain Palm, with its large golf ball-sized fruits. This is a moderate walk which has some steep sections, however there will be plenty of rest breaks along the way. Alternatively, you may choose a more challenging full-day walk to Mount Gower, 875 metres above sea level. Ian will share his knowledge of Lord Howe Island’s history and conservation practices during a pre-dinner lecture this evening.

October 2021 or April 2022 Departure
Enjoy a morning at leisure to relax or explore. After lunch, at low tide, set off on a reef walk at Ned’s Beach rock platform to discover the surrounding coral and rockpools. As some of the world’s most southerly, the coral found here is rich and diverse, and among the last to be impacted by global environmental effects such as coral bleaching. You’ll also learn about the wealth of marine creatures that inhabit the island’s intertidal areas. You may then like to spend some time swimming or snorkelling before enjoying historical movies at the public hall.

Today, set off on a full-day trip to North Bay. Travelling by boat, you’ll arrive at a pristine beach on the northern tip of the island, inaccessible by land. The waters here are a snorkeller’s paradise; rich in colourful corals, turtles, stingrays and an estimated 500 species of fish. The birdlife is also spectacular. On a short nature walk, look out for colonies of sooty terns, brown noddies, black noddies, as well as red-tailed tropicbirds and waders at low tide. Enjoy a barbecue lunch before returning to your accommodation later this afternoon. Ian’s lecture tonight will focus on the marine life of Lord Howe Island.

Enjoy free time this morning, before taking an early lunch at Ned’s Beach. Afterwards, head out on a reef walk along the rock platform, exploring rock pools while learning about the marine creatures in the intertidal areas. You may like to enjoy a spot of swimming or snorkelling while here.

October 2021 or April 2022 Departure
Spend this morning relaxing, then take a glass-bottom boat on a discovery of the marine life supported by the world’s most southerly coral reef. You’ll also have the option to snorkel and see marine wonders beneath the surface up close.
