Itinerary

Day 1. Arrive Adelaide and Himeji Gardens

Be met at Adelaide airport at 12.30pm or The Playford Adelaide at 1.30pm. Enjoy a sightseeing tour including tastings at the Adelaide Wine Centre. Afterwards visit Adelaide’s Japanese sister city garden, the Himeji Gardens. This walled oasis of peace and tranquility blends two classic Japanese styles. Enjoy a Welcome Dinner this evening.

Day 2. AL-RU Farm, Maggie Beer’s and Seppeltsfield Winery

Enjoy a visit to the premier wine region of the Barossa Valley with leisurely time at Maggie Beer’s Farm Shop, then experience the historic Seppeltsfield Winery with its avenue of stunning date palms. Afterwards, visit the private garden of AL-RU Farm, a cattle property featuring a stunning garden.

Day 3. Sophie’s Patch, Adelaide Hills, Hahndorf and Hans Heysen’s Studio

Visit the Mediterranean style Beaumont House, built in 1849. Continue to the quaint German-influenced village of Hahndorf, then visit Hans Heysen’s home and studio, to see the magnificent gums he was so famous for painting, then meet Gardening Australia TV personality Sophie Thomson as she shows us around Sophie’s Patch.

Day 4. Carrick Hill, David Roche Foundation and Adelaide Botanic Gardens

Tour the famous Haigh’s Chocolate Factory and sample the exquisite delicacies. Tour Carrick Hill Manor House with time to explore the vast gardens along with the Australian Museum of Gardening. Next visit the David Roche Foundation which displays the many antiques and fine arts collected over his lifetime. This afternoon, choose to explore the Art Gallery of South Australia or visit the Botanic Gardens with your Botanical Guide.

Day 5. Adelaide and Clare Valley

Stop for lunch at Lyndoch Lavender Farm and take a tour. We then arrive at Sevenhill in the Clare Valley, established in 1851, and Australia’s only remaining Jesuit-owned winery.

Day 6. Martindale Hall, Burra and Bungaree Station

Arrive at one of South Australia’s best known homesteads, Martindale Hall. A living museum, take a look inside this Georgian style house to see how the upper class lived in the late 1800s. Continue on to the historic town of Burra before visiting Bungaree Station, which ran 100,000 sheep in its heyday.

Day 7. The Heritage Garden, Depart Adelaide

This morning visit The Heritage Garden, a six-acre private garden with 2,000 rose bushes. Our tour concludes at Adelaide airport at approximately 2pm flights to depart after 3.30pm or the post-tour hotel at approximately 2.30pm.

Visit Sophie Thomson’s sustainable organic garden

  • A presenter for ABC’s Gardening Australia, Sophie Thomson opens up her property ‘Sophie’s Patch’ for Botanica. The 3-acre property is where she has her own sustainable organic garden including a large veggie patch, fruit trees and what she hopes will be a breath-taking climate-compatible ornamental garden. Tour the property with Sophie and sample produce from the garden for afternoon tea.

 

Fitness Level

  • Low – These tours involve travel close to home and include longer stays in one location. Guests need to be able to walk on uneven surfaces and stairs, and be able to stand for up to one hour and keep up with the pace of the group.
