Day 1. Arrive Melbourne to Grampians

Depart from the Melbourne hotel at 8am or Melbourne Airport at 9am. Arrive at David Glenn’s Lambley Nursery for a tour of his renowned dry garden. Continue on past historical Beaufort to enjoy lunch in a private homestead garden. Continue to the Grampians with a visit to Halls Gap. Spend the next three nights at the award winning Royal Mail Hotel in Dunkeld and enjoy a Welcome Dinner this evening.

Day 2. Coonawarra & Penola

Travel through Coleraine and Penola to Yallum Park Homestead, built by John Riddoch, founder of Coonawarra. Visit the Mary MacKillop Centre and a leading winery of the region. In Hamilton enjoy a viewing of the art collection at the Gallery.

Day 3. Private Gardens & Homesteads

Tour the Kitchen Garden of the Royal Mail Hotel before exploring the private gardens and homesteads of Toora West, Wiltshire, and Narrapumelap. Meet the owners, including Botanica’s Judy Vanrenen and enjoy lunch in Judy’s garden.

Day 4. Port Fairy & Lorne

Travel to the coastal town of Port Fairy then continue along The Great Ocean Road, stopping at the Twelve Apostles and travelling through the lush Otway National Park to Lorne.

Day 5. Geelong & Werribee Park Mansion

Today we visit The Heights Homestead and Garden in Geelong before exploring the low water Botanic Garden overlooking Corio Bay. After lunch, we travel to Werribee Park Mansion and the Victorian State Rose Garden before arriving back in Melbourne. 5 Day BTHG5 guests depart the tour at 4.30pm at Melbourne airport or 5.30pm at the hotel.

Day 6. Melbourne

This morning, visit the house and gardens of historic Rippon Lea Estate. Later, is a guided tour of the Royal Melbourne Botanic Gardens. Enjoy a Farewell Dinner this evening.

Wiltshire Garden

  • This is where Botanica’s founder, Judy Vanrenen, found her inspiration to begin Botanica, and features in Judy’s book. It is an eclectic cottage garden that has been in her family for over 60 years and contains many drought tolerant plants from around the world.
