Botanical Guide

Botanical Guide / Celebrity Gardener - Simon Pickard

  • Celebrity gardener, Simon Rickard, is one of Botanica’s most experienced Botanical Guides. As former head gardener for The Diggers Club and The Garden of St Erth, Simon has an incredible knowledge of plants and gardens around the world which he loves to share with Botanica guests on tour.

Additional Information

Fitness Level

  • Low – These tours involve travel close to home and include longer stays in one location. Guests need to be able to walk on uneven surfaces and stairs, and be able to stand for up to one hour and keep up with the pace of the group.

Visit Simon Rickard’s garden

  • So many of our guests have had the good fortune to travel with Botanical Guide, Simon Rickard and now Simon has generously consented to occasionally opening his own private garden to Botanica guests. “I like gardens that make me think as well as feel. I enjoy the technical challenge of growing plants from different places together and creating unique aesthetic experiences. Is there any nicer feeling than having your own garden take your breath away, and thinking ‘I did that’?”, says Simon.

Autumn in Melbourne

  • European-styled parks, gardens and wide boulevards are aglow with the burnished leaves of English oaks, white poplars, plane trees, elms, conifers and cedars. The amber hues are contrasted spectacularly with lush southern hemisphere evergreens such as Moreton Bay figs and Canary Island dates.
