Day 1. Arrive Brisbane & Botanic Gardens

Today we commence our tour at 12.30pm at the airport or at the pre-tour hotel at 1.30pm. Enjoy a visit to the Brisbane Botanic Gardens, where we will enjoy a guided tour. The gardens were established in 1970 after the Brisbane City Botanic Gardens had to be relocated due to flooding and subsequent damage to the plant collections. Later in the afternoon, we will visit the Roma Street Parklands with its fantastic collection of public art nestled in a unique urban park setting. This evening, you have the opportunity to get to know your fellow guests at a special Welcome Dinner.

Day 2. Southern Garden Visits

Today, we depart Brisbane and head south to Tamborine Mountain. Along the way we visit three private gardens, including the multifaceted and award-winning Joncia Garden where we have lunch. This garden displays elements from many garden traditions, including a Japanese garden, complete with an oriental bridge along with areas dedicated to natives and tropicals. In the afternoon we arrive at Tallaringa, to admire one of Australia’s most delightful private collections of magnolias and michelias along with colourful rhododendrons. Later, arrive at the beautiful resort hotel set in a magnificent garden.

Day 3. Tamborine Mountain

Owing to the cooler climate, Tamborine Mountain is a haven for plants more commonly seen in temperate regions. We will take time to wander through the Tamborine Mountain Botanic Gardens, then visit the gorgeous ‘Glenloch’ for a tour of the European inspired garden.

Day 4. Noosa Private Gardens

Today we visit the private garden Magnolia Close with almost two acres of exotic plants and natural rainforest. Afterwards we also spend time at another exclusive garden making good use of tropical plants. Enjoy meeting the owners at each garden as they share their story with you. We will stop in the town of Montville located on the Blackall Range of the Sunshine Coast hinterland for time to enjoy lunch, before arriving at the RACV Noosa Resort this afternoon.

Day 5. Queensland Garden Expo

Spend time at the highly acclaimedQueensland Garden Expo with wonderful displays. In the afternoon, we visit the unique Maroochy Bushland Botanic Garden, which showcases the flora native to this area. We return to Noosa via the scenic coastal road.

Day 6. Ginger Factory & Garden Visits

Departing this morning, we stop in Woombye in the Sunshine Coast hinterland to visit another exclusive private garden. For lunch, we travel to the Ginger Factory in Yandina where we will also enjoy a tour of the ginger processing plant and stroll through the fantastic gardens. In the afternoon, we visit Stringy Bark Cottage, near Eumundi. This garden is a wonderful combination of meandering rock paths and vine covered arches that lead visitors into quaint garden rooms. We enjoy a Farewell Dinner this evening.

Day 7. Depart Noosa

We depart Noosa with one last private garden before returning to Brisbane for a drop off at Brisbane Airport to arrive approximately 12.30pm or the post-tour hotel to arrive approximately 1.30pm, where our tour concludes.

Botanical Guide – Ross McKinnon

  • Ross McKinnon is the former curator in charge of the Brisbane Botanic Gardens. He has a weekly gardening column, and has hosted various television and radio gardening programs.
