Itinerary

Day 1. Arrive Brisbane to Toowoomba

Be picked up at the airport at 9.30am or the pre-tour hotel at 10.30am. Stop at Picnic Point perched atop of the crest of the Great Dividing Range for 180 degree views over the World Heritage-listed area of The Scenic Rim. Afterwards visit a private native garden before having time to settle-in to your hotel before a Welcome Dinner this evening.

Day 2. Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers

Today we visit some specially selected exhibition and competition gardens, chosen because of their unique and creative designs. Be inspired, meet their owners and learn a tip or two. This afternoon perhaps visit Queens Park and have a guided walk or have free time to explore some of the many other parks and gardens in the town.

Day 3. Harrow Homestead and Allora Private Gardens

This morning visit historic Harrow Homestead and Gardens a private home and grand residence, which was once the centre of a small village, with a collection of outbuildings, workers cottages and a school. The picturesque gardens feature a 50 metre rose arbour and waterlily filled lake. Continue on to Allora to visit a private garden featured on Michael McCoy’s ABC TV garden design series as well as ‘The Mary Poppins House’ the childhood home of writer, Pamela Travers. This evening enjoy a ‘Progressive Dinner’ enjoying food and wine in three unique venues.

Day 4. Japanese Garden and Art

This morning tour Ju Raku-en Garden, Australia’s largest and most traditionally designed Japanese strolling garden before a visit to the Toowoomba Art Gallery, the oldest public gallery in Queensland. Afterwards continue on to Sanctuary Cove and your luxury resort.

Day 5. Margaret Olley Art Centre and Tropical Fruit World

This morning we make a visit to the Margaret Olley Art Centre at Tweed Heads which celebrates the career, life and legacy of Australia’s most celebrated painter of still life and interiors. Afterwards we take a tour of a tropical fruit planation and journey through orchards where more than 500 of the world’s weird and wonderful fruit varieties are grown. Learn why this unique location, nestled on the edge of the volcanic caldera of Wollumbin, is so special.

Day 6. Private Garden Visit

This morning enjoy a private garden visit. Meet the owner and learn about gardening in this climate. This afternoon enjoy free time to relax before a Farewell Dinner this evening.

Day 7. Depart Brisbane

This morning we depart Sanctuary Cove and make our way back to Brisbane for a drop off at Brisbane airport by 12 midday or the hotel by 1pm.

Botanical Guide - Ross McKinnon

  • Ross McKinnon is the former curator of the Brisbane Botanic Gardens. He has a weekly gardening column and has hosted various television and radio gardening programs. Ross is a patron, life and honorary member of numerous horticultural organisations including Australia’s Open Garden Scheme.

Carnival of Flowers

  • For almost 70 years, the Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers has been celebrating the colourful blooms grown by its green-thumbed locals. Visitors from all over Australia converge on the charming Queensland country town’s yearly gardening spectacular that includes live music, food, wine and entertainment.

 

Fitness Level

  • Low – These tours involve travel close to home and include longer stays in one location. Guests need to be able to walk on uneven surfaces and stairs, and be able to stand for up to one hour and keep up with the pace of the group.
